Introductions

‘Frapinot’
Françoise Male-Pinot

I have lived all my adult life in two countries – France and England, packing my bags often, rarely settling down. Born and raised on the Champagne hills, close to Burgundy where I studied, I learnt to appreciate wide open landscapes, along with the good way of life shared by the fortunate inhabitants of these blessed regions. My desire to paint both large horizons as well as very detailed still lifes, is linked to my geographical and cultural environment.

I studied English and American civilisations at university, married Tony, settled in Devon, gave birth to Claire and Dominic, taught French, moved to Hertfordshire, then Somerset and finally Bar sur Aube where I was born and which is our family home. Here I reconnect with my own artistic self, as inspiration calls.

I use whatever medium I think suits my subject best. I like working from reality but sometimes venture into abstraction. Elements of nature, large and small fascinate me. People and faces too.
